Before & After - Kitchen

We had a crazy 24 hours!  We are in the process of refinancing our house.  Well, Jake got a call yesterday around 10am that our house appraisal would be this morning at 8am.  Yikes!  After a full work day, we were up rather late last night finishing some trim, painting trim, touching up walls, mowing the lawn, cleaning up the back room, cleaning the house, etc....  Praying for a good appraisal!

Now this was quite the project.....the kitchen.  Originally, we would have loved to gut the kitchen & start over, but that was just going be too expensive.  We decided to save some money, make do with what we had & bring some life back to the kitchen.
Here are some BEFORE pictures:
The entire kitchen was covered in a greasy film. So glad it is July now & not November!  We spent many hours in the kitchen ripping things out, chipping away tile, scrubbing, painting, etc.

In the below picture you can see all the cabinets on the kitchen wall plus how it "opened up" into their sunroom, which is our dining room.  We probably took out over half of the kitchen cabinets.

And AFTER:
The island is a cabinet that we saved, added a bookshelf to one end & wrapped it in beadboard. Some more island details are HERE & HERE.

Love having the girls kitchen right in mine so they can cook with me.
I also LOVE the slat board ceiling & recessed lighting.  So much better than popcorn & a ceiling fan.

Concrete countertop details are HERE.  We decided to keep the existing kitchen cabinets & paint them.  They are solid cabinets, they just were dirty & the finish was worn.  They needed an update.

View from the pantry.

They had a big pantry/cabinet in this corner (below picture).  We did not need the pantry, we needed more counter space.  We chopped the existing cabinet off & then did open shelved above.  I really like how it turned out.  We will eventually be getting a range hood for over the stove.  We are waiting since that is not a necessity right now.

Subway tile post is HERE. This past weekend, Jake wrapped these shelves in sheet metal.  We also spray painted our old (but it still works!) microwave so it goes with our stainless appliances.
